Green movie event shows new Leonardo DiCaprio documentary. Forget Cannes and start queuing up for your tickets to the inaugural Can Film Festival. Leonardo DiCaprio’s green documentary 11th Hour is to be shown at three locations, including Glasgow, next month, in a bid to raise awareness about recycling.
Entry to the film is free and on a first come first served basis but viewers are encouraged to bring an empty drinks can along with them for recycling as admission to the screening. James King, Radio 1 film critic and spokesperson for the festival, said:
‘I wanted to get involved in this project as recycling is an important part of our everyday lives and is essential to the upkeep of the environment. We have to raise awareness around this subject to ensure a healthy future for our children.’
As King points out, Britain currently consumes eight billion drinks cans a year. ‘Six to eight weeks after a drinks can is recycled it can be back on the shelf being sold as another drinks can,’ he explains, ‘so a little bit of effort can really go a long way.’
